Retrieving and shipping lost and found items from Narita Airport

Narita International Airport, located in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, has a dedicated Lost and Found department to assist passengers who have lost or found items within the airport premises. The Lost and Found office at Narita Airport provides services to help reunite lost items with their owners.

If you have already left Japan and have lost an item at Narita Airport, you can still try to recover it by contacting the Lost and Found office remotely.

Here are the steps you can take:

1. Contact the Lost and Found office: Reach out to the Lost and Found office at Narita Airport by phone or email to report your lost item. Provide them with detailed information about the item, including a description, any identifying features, the approximate time and location it was lost, as well as your contact information and flight details.

You can go to their website and fill out a form to report. This will be most convenient.

2. Wait for their response: If they have successfully found your lost item, they will send you back an email and provide you with a reference number for your lost and found item.

3. Reply to their email. This can be done by filling out the necessary parts
of the email you receive from them.

They ask you to reply to them by filling out the parts for your details such as
your name, address and a phone number and also the details of your proxy.

4. Ensure that they received your reply and it is in order. Also ensure that the item will be ready for pickup on the date you specify.

The lost and found property can be collected by a proxy shipping company. If you have a friend or a family member in Japan, they can be collected by such a proxy as well.

Lost and found items are kept there for 7 days only.
After seven days, they will be handed over to the Narita Airport Police Station.

If you lost your item after going through the customs/immigration, the  followings will the places of contact.

Narita Customs Office:

You can have your lost and found items retrieved by a representative by submitting them a form(letter of authorization) and a passport copy.  They will hand over the items to the police station after a few days.

Procedure for picking up from the Police Station

1.Contact the police station and obtain their own reference number for your lost and found item as well as ensuring that they already have the lost and found items. Tell them also the reference number for the lost and found item which Narita Airport Lost and Found Office gave you earlier.

2. Fill out the letter of authorization (Bilingual version available) and
send it to them by fax together with a copy of your passport. Alternatively this can be sent to your proxy who picks up your item and he/she can bring it to the police station at the time of pickup.

3.At some point after your proxy or the police station receives the
letter of authorization, they may ask you to call them directly to confirm.

4. Narita Airport Police handles a large number of lost and found items. Ensure that your proxy contact them and find out when the item will be ready for pickup and also tell them when he/she is coming.

It’s important to remember that each airport may have its own specific procedures and policies regarding lost and found items, so it’s always recommended to contact the Lost and Found office at Narita Airport directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
